Rimini connects to Europe: EasyJet lands at Fellini
Rimini is a city located on the Adriatic coast of Italy, known for its tourism industry and historical heritage. The city is served by Federico Fellini International Airport, which acts as a regional air hub for residents and visitors. Until recently, Rimini’s international air connectivity has been somewhat limited, mostly reliant on seasonal charter flights and a few scheduled services to other Italian and European destinations.
EasyJet, a prominent European low-cost airline, has announced the inauguration of its new scheduled flights to Federico Fellini International Airport. This addition connects Rimini directly with several major European cities, broadening travel options for both leisure and business passengers. The launch of EasyJet services is expected to boost Rimini’s accessibility from across Europe, offering enhanced transportation links and supporting local economic sectors such as tourism and commerce..
As of next April, the airport “Federico Fellini” of Rimini will see an important new feature: EasyJet, a leading low-cost airline, will begin operating scheduled flights to and from the Romagna airport. This new connection, the result of a long team effort, represents a turning point for the area and local tourism.
As of April 16, 2025, the Fellini will be connected to London Gatwick, a major European hub, and in Basel, a strategic airport located on the border between Switzerland, France and Germany. The flights, operated twice a week (Wednesday and Sunday), will remain active until the end of October. Lorenzo Lagorio, EasyJet Italy country manager, stressed that these new connections represent “an opportunity to enhance the beauty of Romagna and to incentivize Romagnoli to discover destinations such as London, Basel and neighboring territories.”
An opportunity for the territory
The agreement between AIRiminum, the company that manages the Rimini airport, and EasyJet is multi-year in scope and aims to strengthen the airport’s role as a gateway to international tourism. Leonardo Corbucci, CEO of AIRiminum, highlighted how these connections are the result of a development strategy initiated last year and culminating in Rimini being awarded the 19th edition of “Routes Europe,” one of the most prestigious events in the aviation industry. “This partnership,” Corbucci explained, “is just the beginning. We expect other economic players in the area to join us in growing the potential of the Fellini.”
The mayor of Rimini, Jamil Sadegholvaad, stressed the importance of investing in international markets to ensure the city’s competitiveness: “The Fellini is a strategic asset for our area, and collaborations like the one with EasyJet allow us to translate ambitions into concrete results.”
The Director of the APT Emanuele Burioni, pointed out that this is just one of many projects in the pipeline for tourism in Romagna, thanks to the fruitful collaboration between the various public and private players who, working together, have achieved this ambitious goal, which represents a fundamental starting point for innovating and improving the quality of tourism offerings.
Objectives and perspectives
EasyJet, which moves more than 100 million passengers annually, has decided to include Rimini in its extensive European network, which now includes 19 Italian airports. The opening of these new routes represents a step forward in the company’s strategy to consolidate its presence in Italy, offering passengers competitive fares and a wide range of destinations.
AIRiminum, for its part, aims to reach the goal of more than 400,000 annual passengers by 2025. To support this growth, major infrastructure interventions are underway, financed with 9 million euros from the Emilia-Romagna Region out of a total of 15 million. Major projects include improving accessibility to the airport with the acquisition of new areas adjacent to the airport.
A more connected future
With the arrival of EasyJet, Fellini’s offerings for the 2025 summer season are further enriched: in addition to the eight Ryanair destinations (including Cagliari, Palermo, and London Stansted), there will be flights to Luxembourg with Luxair, Tirana with Wizzair, and now London Gatwick and Basel with EasyJet. In addition, Tez Tour has confirmed charters to Vilnius and Sofia, while Neos will reintroduce Sharm el Sheik between September and October.
These new connections, as Lagorio reiterated, represent a step forward in strengthening local tourism and connectivity with the rest of Europe. Rimini is thus preparing to consolidate its role as a key tourist destination, offering ever greater opportunities for growth for the area.
