(Re)discovering Brussels, a destination for your next LGBT-themed trip
Belgium has become a sought-after destination by tourists from Europe and beyond. Brussels and all the villages that are nearby are little gems, perfect for a trip for couples, singles or friends. Not surprisingly, over time, all of Belgium has become a very inclusive destination for friendly tourism, open to innovation, history and culture as well as good food. Although it has been called a “cold and unfriendly” city, Brussels hides a very lively life behind this image. La gay scene is particularly concentrated in the Old Town, near the Gran Place. Clubs and hangouts are not lacking, obviously divided by gender: normal, leather and fashion. They are almost all clustered in a neighborhood not far from the central train station, located southwest of downtown between the Bourse and Anneessens metro stations. And then there are 3 saunas, several bars and numerous discos that are reserved for the LGBT clientele. Particularly well known, at the European level, is a mega event that generally takes place once a month: La Demence! The first official party dates back to 1989 and its great success found attracts thousands of people from all over Europe every month. But what is there to see (for real) in Brussels?
Brussels, between ancient and modern
A crossroads for a thick nightlife, Brussels is also a city to experience from a culinary and cultural point of view. The city, in fact, while living in the midst of modernity, has preserved all its architectural beauty. The historic center and with its “flower market” is one of the most beautiful spots. There it is nice to get lost among the ancient streets, the period buildings, admire the stores where excellent chocolate is produced (still) and where there are several places where you can taste local beers with sublime flavors. Different cultures converge in Brussels, and it is nice to admire how they have integrated with the population. Don’t miss the small town of Bruges, which is only an hour by train from the capital: for a journey into the purest Flemish culture.
Brussels and La Demence: what is it all about?
A diamond gem for lovers of the purest fun is La Demence. It is an all-community party held in Brussels once a month: mostly on Fridays and sometimes the day before a holiday. At Easter and Halloween it becomes a weekend party and is organized with multiple parties in different locations. What makes Demence different from other parties is the international crowd and the variety of styles. Because Brussels is strategically located as a city, Demence attracts, in addition to local Belgians, dicersi visitors from France, the Netherlands and Germany, as well as Italians, Swiss, Spanish, British and Americans. Not only does it feel speak many languages, but marvel at the mix of different styles. Great music and a large “crowd” makes La Demence a date for those seeking fun and sensuality. The party, however, promotes the freedom to be oneself and safe sex.
Brussels: a rainbow life among bars and nightclubs
As we have already pointed out, Brussels is very active in terms of nightlife activities. It is a city that has been able to exploit its qualities and build a movida that is suitable for everyone, but very inclusive. In fact, in the many themed clubs and evenings that enliven Brussels, it is not necessarily the case that you can cross only members of the community but also ordinary people. In this respect, the population is projected to be inclusive since it has always lived in a community that is always open to dialogue and that has never closed its borders with other cultures. From history they have learned a fundamental lesson.
